Make the Connection backed by MSPs - 24 October 2006 Print E-mail

The Make the Connection campaign has received the backing of Members of the Scottish Parliament.  A motion in support of the campaign has been tabled in the Parliament by Karen Gillon, MSP for Clydesdale.  This follows the launch of the Scottish strand of the campaign on Monday 10 October.

That day, a mailing was sent to 1,000 small businesses across Scotland with information on how best they can avoid the most common pitfalls in the energy market.

energywatch and the FSB are pressing energy suppliers and Ofgem, the regulator, to take action to improve the situation for small businesses in the energy market.

The motion reads:

S2M-4936 Make the Connection

That the Parliament welcomes Make the Connection, the joint campaign by energywatch and the Federation of Small Businesses to achieve a better deal for small businesses from the energy market; recognises that small businesses enjoy far less protection from regulation and industry codes of practice compared with domestic energy consumers; notes the high cost of gas and electricity for non-domestic users at a time of low wholesale prices, which can cause smaller businesses to struggle, and calls on energy suppliers to recognise the importance of small businesses as a key market of the £3 billion gas and electricity industry by improving the way in which they deal with small business customers.
