Small businesses get a raw deal in the energy market.  The problems they face are much the same as the ones faced by domestic energy consumers, but the latter are protected by a raft of consumer law, regulation and industry Codes of Practice, none of which are in place to protect small businesses.

At a time when gas and electricity prices have risen so dramatically this lack of protection has been exacebated.  Ourselves and the FSB joined together to push for improvements from the industry and to press Ofgem, the regulator for better protection for small businesses in the market.  But this will not happen overnight, so we want to get information to the people running small businesses, to you, on how you can avoid the problems so many businesses suffer.

By using the information on this website we hope that the chances of you being duped by a rogue salesperson acting on behalf of an energy company; of you finding an unexpected gas or electricity bill on your doormat one day for thousands of pounds; or being threatened with having your supply disconnected will be reduced.

We don’t want all the responsibility for avoiding problems to lie with small businesses themselves, but until Ofgem and the industry takes action it is the best way of sidestepping many of the most common problems.  We hope you find this website useful.
