Small businesses can be disconnected for a number of reasons:
- A debt has accumulated and the company is taking action to limit its ongoing exposure;
- There has been a billing error and the consumer has withheld payment; or
- It could even be a serious mistake by the supplier or its contractor and the wrong premises has been disconnected.
It is always important to communicate with your supplier. If you are having problems with payment try and arrange a new payment schedule. If you believe there has been an error in the amount you have been billed, contact the supplier and they will put the amount owed on hold until the issue has been resolved. If there has been a mistake contact the supply company immediately to arrange reconnection.
So, communication is key – remember, regardless of who is in the right, your business will suffer if you are disconnected.
The key thing to remember about debt and disconnection:
- Talk to your supplier about any payment difficulties
