When arranging a contract with an energy supplier, ask who has responsibility for maintaining and reading the meters. Although you may have the right to own your meter and be responsible for providing your meter readings, in most cases you will probably want the supplier to have this responsibility.
If you do have to take meter readings yourself, check how often you are required to take them so that you do not forget and put yourself in breach of the contract. Even if you are not responsible for meter readings, you should read your meters regularly, provide the readings to your supplier, ensure that they are used in your bills and keep them for your records. Further information is available on this site about meters and bills.
